Food & Drink
Delicious food and perfectly served drinks
After 32 years running the popular Vienna Restaurant in Farnham, Paul and Nichola certainly know what they’re doing when it comes to food. They are continuing to serve their fantastic fish menus along side popular pub classics including Beef Wellington, Gressingham duck, 28 day hung steaks and much more besides. Everything on the menu is made with exceptionally high quality ingredients and all the sea food comes direct from Johnsonson on the quay at Portsmouth. Paul and Nichola have been using Johnsons for more than 20 years and some days they even have a chat to the fishermen before they head out on the boats for the day – it doesn’t get better than that! The Chequers Inn is a pub with both a la carte and brasserie menus that are hard to beat. Come along and enjoy it for yourself. The Chequers Inn also has a fantastic daily blackboard special which can have up to 15 stunning fresh fish dishes on it each day. To top it all off there is a superb dessert board, offering a range of scrumptious treats. A range of coffees and speciality teas are also available. We specialise in sea food As we are lucky enough to have fresh fish supplied to us daily from the south coast. We decided to take full advantage of this and specialise in providing a vast array on our sea food menu. Our selection of fish include: Turbot; Skate; Dover Sole; Scallops; Sea Bass; Sea Bream; Lemon Sole; Plaice; Wild Salmon; Rock Salmon; Cod fillets and also Mussels, Crabs and Lobster. Be sure to ask for the menu when you visit. |

About the area
The line of the “Harrow Way,” one of the oldest roads in England, runs through Well village.
Chawton… Jane Austen’s house Jane Austen is one of the most popular and important novelists that England has ever produced. The house at Chawton is where she spent the last eight years of her life. It is of international importance as the place where she did the majority of her mature writing, but at the same time retains the charm of a village home. A 17th century house, it tells the story of Jane Austen and her family. |
Chawton House Library
Opened in 2003, The Library is now The Centre for the Study of Early English Women’s writing (1600-1830). It has a collection of over 9,000 books together with related original manuscripts. It is set in 275 acres of Hampshire countryside, and is commonly used for conferences, filming and more recently as a venue for weddings. It is home to some of the rarest manuscripts of well-known female authors, including Jane Austin herself. |
Selbourne… Gilbert White’s House & Garden and the Oates Collection
It’s a special day out at this fascinating and most original museum commemorating important individuals in the exploration of the natural world, set in an historic village in beautiful countryside. Having paid admission, you can come and go as often as you please that day. View the house and museum, go for a walk around the delightful gardens and through the Park to see the follies, take tea in the parlour and shop in the old billiard room. Time and energy permitting, walk up the famous Gilbert White’s Zigzag through the hanging beechwoods, return and tour the grounds. Or just sit and look at one of the most delightful views in the South of England. |
